Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain has laughed off their rivalry with Barcelona after last night's 7-1 thrashing of Sporting Gijon.

Only days earlier Barca thumped six past Sporting and Higuain was quizzed if Real's players were determined to better their bitter rivals: "We weren't trying to score seven because they had scored six.

"All we wanted to do was to play well and win. With what we have achieved, we are happy."

Higuain is battling Raul, who struck twice on the night, for a place in Real's first team and the Argie added: "I am not going to say anything bad about Raul, that's something that makes no sense, he has two goals and has played well.

"I'm happy because he is our captain. He deserves it."
