AC Milan have held talks with Real Madrid midfielder Emerson this week.
Corriere dello Sport says Milan have moved ahead of city rivals Inter in the race to land the want-away Brazilian.
Emerson is willing to take a pay-cut on his £3.75 million Madrid salary to secure a return to Italy before the start of the season.
