Calderon is ready to smash the world transfer record to bring the Valencia striker to Madrid next season, but Cannavaro says: "He's a good forward. But we're talking about something which has a long way to go, nothing will happen until next season."
Told about Villa's buyout clause, Cannavaro said: "How much? That's a lot ... maybe too much."
The Italian defender also weighed into teammate Raul's omission from the Spain squad: "When a player like Raul, who has played 15 years with the most important club in the world, and is the most recognisable man of this club, it is normal that when the national team does not call him it creates controversy.
"But, it is better that he is here and he rests well because we need the best Raul."
