Real Madrid wing-back Marcelo hailed two-goal Cristiano Ronaldo after their 5-0 rout of Sevilla.

Marcelo also congratulated Cristiano Ronaldo on his fifth Ballon d'Or triumph and labelled the Portuguese icon the best in the world.

"For me, Cristiano is the best player in the world," Marcelo explained in his post-match interview.

"I haven't seen Maradona or Pele play.

"However, what I know is that there is no comparison."

It's expected that there will be significant investment in the January transfer window, something that the Brazilian defender is prepared for.

"Real Madrid are happy with the squad," he intimated. "Though if someone else comes in then I will welcome them.

"I am delighted with the young players."
