Manchester City's deal for Lazio fullback Aleksandar Kolarov is expected to see Real Madrid step up their bid for Chelsea star Ashley Cole.
The Daily Mail says the Spaniards had previously been linked with Kolarov and may now step up their efforts to prise England star Cole from Chelsea.
With Real also in talks about sending Royston Drenthe to Benfica, the lack of cover at left-back is concerning Jose Mourinho, who welcome a reunion with Cole.
