Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema has rejected interest from Liverpool. The Daily Star Sunday says the Reds chief Brendan Rodgers 'chanced' an enquiry about the French ace, 26, a fortnight ago but was rebuffed - not by Madrid but by the player.

Real were prepared to listen to offers in excess of £35million after spending £65m on in James Rodriguez from Monaco.

The word back from Benzema's agents, however, left Liverpool smarting when the player indicated they were not on his elite wish-list for a move.
