Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema insists his goal in the Champions League final was not down to luck.

Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius threw the ball off Benzema's leg and then watched helplessly as it rolled into the net.

The French striker, though, has stated that the goal wasn't lucky and explained that he had to work hard to be in the right position.

"No, I don't think it was luck," he said in an interview on Kuwait television when asked about his goal.

"You have to be at the right place at the right time.

"I don't believe in luck, it's always hard work.

"It may have been an easy goal, but you have to be there to score it."

With that goal getting Los Blancos off the mark, they went on to win the final 3-1.
