Real Madrid step up bid for Liverpool's disgruntled Gerrard

Gerrard's outburst over Liverpool's season came in a week when Real president Ramon Calderon has decided to return to predecessor Florentino Perez's galacticos policy - should they fail to win a trophy this season.

Calderon knows he would face a fans' revolt if the season ended trophyless - and the only way to calm supporters would be to bring a player of Gerrard's calibre to the club over the summer, says DiarioSport.

Real are expected to revive last year's push for Gerrard should coach Bernd Schuster's team continue to falter in the coming weeks.
