Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo has been nominated to win the 2012 Laureus Award for World Sportsman of the Year.

The Portuguese player was already nominated in 2009 and now, three years later, he is in the running for a prize to which Sebastian Vettel (Formula 1), Usain Bolt and Mo Farah (athletics), Michael Phelps (swimming), Lebron James (basketball), Bradley Wiggins (cycling), and Lionel Messi (football) also aspire.

The names of the six finalists will be announced on December 13, and the winner will be recognized in a gala event that will take place on March 11, 2013, in Rio de Janeiro.
