Real Madrid star James Rodriguez hopes Cristiano Ronaldo avoids a lengthy suspension after his dismissal in victory over Cordoba.

A three match ban would see Ronaldo miss the crucial derby against Atletico Madrid.

James remarked: "I didn't see the incident as I was off and my view was obstructed.

"His sanction depends on the Federation as to whether it's one, two or three games. He's a key player for us and I hope he's back as soon as possible."
