Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo angry with Perez over 'backhanded' compliments

Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo is angry over president Florentino Perez openly raising doubts about his future.

Over the past week, Ronaldo has won the Club World Cup and been awarded the 2017 Ballon d'Or.

However, AS says at the same time, the Portuguese has major doubts about the support he has received from his president. Comments made in Paris, during the Ballon d'Or gala left Ronaldo unimpressed.

Paying tribute, Perez stated: "For me, he is the most complete player after (Alfredo) Di Stéfano, he is his heir. As with him, after Cristiano there will come a new stage in Madrid."

Ronaldo was also upset with Perez talking up the prospect of moving for PSG star Neymar, who he sees as a threat to his own status in the game.

"Neymar being in Madrid would have more facilities to win it (the Champions League), Madrid is a club that gives what it needs to a great player," said Perez.

"Sign Neymar? It's not a bad idea."

Ronaldo is nonplussed and believes Perez is deliberately giving him backhanded compliments.

The player, himself, tellingly said last night when asked if he'd like to retire with Real: "If possible, yes ... But it's not something that depends on me, I'm not the one in charge of the club. We'll see ..."
