Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema is in hot water over a driving offence in Madrid.

El Pais reports Benzema potentially faces a prison sentence of three to six months after being caught by a speed camera doing 216 kilometers per hour on a stretch limited to 100.

On February 3, Real Madrid had played hours earlier in Granada where they lost 1-0 through a late own goal from Cristiano Ronaldo. Benzema's Audi was caught by a traffic camera in the town of Pozuelo de Alarcón.

Benzema was due to appear in court on Tuesday, but that was delayed as he was selected in the squad for the Copa tie at Barcelona.
