Real Madrid captain Raul admits he spoke with president Ramon Calderon about signing Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo over the summer.

"In the conversation we had, it seemed we were going to get him," said Raul "I was fine with it, though it's not a decision I am here to make."

Asked about Real's pursuit of Valencia striker David Villa, Raul added: "He's a great player, he's having a great season. If he had come, competition would be greater, but it would be good for the team."
