Real Madrid have sold young midfielder Javi Garcia to Benfica for £5 million.

The defensive utility has signed a five-year contract with Benfica and Real also have negotiated a 10 per cent sell-on clause.

Javi Garcia joins former Real teammate Javier Saviola at Benfica, the Argentine striker having signed for £3 million at the end of last season.
