Real Madrid's Xabi: I love Scotland, I hope they are in the Euros

Real Madrid star Xabi Alonso says he would love to see Scotland make it to the 2012 European Championships.

Ahead of tomorrow night's meeting in Alicante, the Spain midfielder revealed he loves holidaying in Scotland and says that he would like to see the national team - who need a win or hope Lithuania beat the Czech Republic - qualify for the finals in Poland and Ukraine next summer.

"I do have a special appreciation for Scotland and I'd love them to be in the Euros," he said.

"I like Scotland because when I was at Liverpool I was able to visit the country a few times.

"I've been to Edinburgh, Aberdeen and the Highlands.

"It's a really nice place. Very different from Spain, but very nice.

"When we played the first game at Hampden Park I really enjoyed the atmosphere and I know how passionate the fans are too."
