Colombia made it two wins from two matches at the 2016 Copa America Centenario thanks to a winning result on Tuesday.

Jose Pekerman's side backed up their 2-0 opening match victory over hosts USA with a hard-fought 2-1 triumph over 10-man Paraguay on Tuesday.

Real Madrid star James Rodriguez was the star of the show for Colombia, providing an assist and scoring his second goal of the tournament, to pick up Man of the Match honours.

Los Cafeteros raced away to a two-goal lead by the half-hour mark but struggled to put the Paraguayans away and in the end, came away with a narrow win, after Oscar Romero's red card on 81 minutes.

Colombia took the lead in the 12th minute at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena when AC Milan striker Carlos Bacca clinically headed home captain Rodriguez's lovely curling corner from the back post, giving Paraguay's veteran keeper Justo Villar no chance.

The second goal came 18 minutes later when Edwin Cardona managed to knock the ball into the path of Rodriguez, who fired past Villar with a first-time effort, notching his 16th international goal.

Paraguay were back in the contest with just under 20 minutes remaining when Victor Ayala beat David Ospina with a thunderous effort from range, which dipped over the Arsenal gloveman and safely in under the crossbar.

10 minutes later, however, Ramon Diaz's La Albirroja were reduced to 10 men when Oscar Romero received a second yellow card for tugging the shirt of Rodriguez and then taking down Guillermo Celis in the centre of the pitch.

The extra man advantage assisted the Colombians in holding out a desperate Paraguay who chased a second goal and subsequent draw.

Nevertheless, Colombia are now in a strong position on top of Group A, having progressed through to the quarter-finals ahead of their final group game against Costa Rica on Saturday.
