Real Madrid have told Manchester City they would be willing to take Emmanuel Adebayor off their hands.
Marca says Hamburg veteran Ruud van Nistelrooy remains their priority target, but the chances of landing the Dutchman are slim given his German club's stand.
Instead, Real have gone back to City to let them know they are prepared to discuss a loan deal for Adebayor.
Real would be prepared to take the striker on a six-month deal and cover 50 per cent of his £160,000-a-week wages.
