Real Madrid are ready to compete with Manchester United for AS Roma midfielder Kevin Strootman.
The Daily Star says according to reports in Spain, Madrid are keen on the Dutchman, and he insists it would be a dream to play for them or rivals Barcelona.
Strootman has been heavily linked with a move to Man United, and is understood to be their number one target in the transfer window.
The latest revelation however would be a huge blow to Louis van Gaal who is keen to build a team around Strootman like he'd planned to do with Holland prior to his injury last season.
Strootman recently told Dutch publication Voetbal International: "I do not see Roma as an intermediate point in my career.
"Of course, a player who plays well here can showcase themselves sooner.
"Everyone wants to play with Real Madrid or Barcelona, but these big clubs are not scouting in Netherlands."
