Real Madrid president Florentino Perez couldn't contemplate allowing Sergio Ramos to leave Manchester United, it has been revealed.
The Daily Mail says Perez told Ramos he couldn't let him leave the club and sign for Manchester United because if he did, he would be the next one through the door.
Sources close to Ramos suggest that in heated talks held at the Ritz-Carlton hotel in Guangzhou, China, last weekend the president admitted he would be forced to resign by angry supporters if he sold the club captain.
Perez was jeered at the Santiago Bernabeu during the send-off given to goalkeeper Iker Casillas and fans sang for him to resign and for Ramos to stay at the club.
Ramos has since committed his future to Real and is set to sign a new deal.
