Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has cast doubt on their chances of beating Barcelona for Valencia striker David Villa.

Having already shelled out £140 million for Cristiano Ronaldo and Kaka - with another £50 million committed to signing Bayern Munich's Franck Ribery - Perez concedes Real cannot afford to cough up big again for Villa.

"Villa is an excellent player and we want him to be part of our project, but we cannot pay those figures for each player," explained Perez.
