Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has spoken to coach Zinedine Zidane about their transfer plans this week.
Diario Gol says Perez has informed the Frenchman a new striker signing is close.
And the player in line to join Real is Inter Milan captain Mauro Icardi, with negotiations now at an advanced stage.
A deal is not yet over the line, but Zidane has been assured talks are on the right track.
Both Perez and Zidane are agreed a new No9 needs to be signed and Icardi is being targeted as he can play in the Champions League. The Argentine will be signed with the view to being involved in the Champions League playoff with PSG.
A fee in the region of €90-100m has been mentioned ahead of the January market.
