Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon has revealed sacked coach Fabio Capello wanted to bring Chelsea midfielder Claude Makelele back to the club.

Capello was close to Real sports director Pedja Mijatovic and Calderon revealed: "Mijatovic told me that Capello wanted to strengthen the defence and intended to play next season with two defensive midfielders.

"Capello asked for Makelele and also to have Roberto Carlos re-signed."
