Real Madrid pair Canales, Leon delighted with winning Champions League debuts

Real Madrid new boys Pedro Leon and Sergio Canales made their Champions League debuts in last night's 2-0 victory over Ajax.

Both players made second half substitute appearances as the dominant Merengues swept the Dutch club aside.

"I felt good, but more important for us was the victory. Playing with Real Madrid is fantastic," Leon said. "We have to respect the attitude of the crowd, I think today it was not bad. You have to respect every opponent, because they are all difficult.

"We have to go strong in the next game. Let's see if next week we make as many chances but more work is needed. We have seen an improvement in the team but must continue."

Canales added: "We had clear chances but with these players the goals will come. It is true that we could have won by more, but it gives us confidence that we continue to play well with the clean sheet.

"It's a dream to play in the Champions League and with Real Madrid more so."
