Real Madrid assistant coach Zinedine Zidane has long coveted the France job.

French Football Federation president Noel Le Graet admits Zizou sought the post when Laurent Blanc stepped down as Les Bleus coach in 2012.

"Znedine Zidane would have liked to coach Les Bleus. It was clear: He wanted it! I know his request.

"It was not the right time, first he had to lead a team."
