New Real Madrid assistant coach Aitor Karanka is excited about the season ahead.

Karanka has been drafted in by coach Jose Mourinho and says there's plenty for Real fans to be excited about.

"During the pre-season Mourinho will introduce a lot of new drills so that the team's gets used to them. They will then be customized to each opponent, circumstances, etc. Mourinho knows what he wants and will transmit a sense of normality. He understands this club's winning spirit," said Karanka on the Real Madrid website.

"Mourinho has included me in his work from the very start and he told me that I am an equal part of his team as all the other assistants he brought. He brought his own goalkeeper coach, an assistant for video analysis and a fitness trainer, who is his right-hand man. But I will also be by his side on the bench and I hope to help him in any way possible.

"I spent 14 years playing and I know what this is all about. I know many of the players and am confident that everything will turn out well. This is going to be an exciting season for Real Madrid."
