Real Madrid No2 Aitor Karanka is delighted to have won his first title as a coach.

Karanka's influence at Real has grown as Jose Mourinho has leaned more and more on him for support.

"We've been working hard for two seasons. We won the Copa del Rey last year and we were excited about that because the team hadn't won it for years. We've taken another step forward this season with the league title," said Karanka.

"This is my first league championship in this new era for me at Real Madrid. It is completely different to winning as a player; it is their moment to enjoy what they've achieved, while I must start working on Saturday's match and the preseason tomorrow. It feels great to win after the work we've done this year. This team has character and this group of players is very strong. They've taken us where we are now."
