Real Madrid No2 Aitor Karanka admits Jose Mourinho had wanted to sign Diego Lopez in the first season of his reign.

Mourinho has stuck with Lopez ahead of Iker Casillas since his January arrival.

Karanka said: "It was requested but the club didn't accept it. The manager is supposed to have all this power but in the end he doesn't have that much. Then there's the matter of negotiations and other issues which I don't know how far they go."
