Real Madrid assistant coach Paul Clement is set to succeed Steve McClaren at Derby County.
Incoming Derby chairman Mel Morris pinpointed Clement after deciding to part company with McClaren, who failed to get Rams into the Championship play-offs after winning two of their last 13 games, says the Sunday Mirror.
There is also a belief at the club that McClaren's head was turned by an approach from Newcastle, which he turned down.
However, Toon owner Mike Ashley has not ruled out a move back for McClaren.
