Real Madrid mourn passing of Ignacio Zoco

Real Madrid are mourning the death of former midfielder Ignacio Zoco.

Zoco passed away on Monday aged 76.

A European Championship winner with Spain in 1964, Zoco moved to the Bernabeu stadium in 1962 and went on to play for the Merengues for over a decade, making 318 appearances and winning seven Primera Division titles, two Spanish Cups and a European Cup.

A statement from Real Madrid said: "Real Madrid joins in the grief of the family and gives its condolences for his passing."

Zoco, who earned 25 caps for Spain, retired in 1974 at the age of 35 but remained strongly linked to the club.

The Navarra-born player was the club's team delegate from 1994 until 1998 and had been president of the Association of former Real Madrid players until his death.
