Real Madrid have made Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea a priority target for 2013.
The People says boss Jose Mourinho, the driving force behind the move for De Gea, caused a stir in Spain when he dropped the regular stopper and captain Iker Casillas for his side's last match in La Liga, against Malaga.
And while Mourinho's own future at the Bernabeu remains in doubt, sources close to the club claim they will press on with a move for De Gea even if they do decide to part company with the former Chelsea manager.
United took De Gea from Atletico Madrid 18 months ago for £16m, with Sir Alex Ferguson hoping he would fill the void left by Edwin van der Sar.
But De Gea - who has denied rumours of homesickness - is not seen as United's out-and-out No.1 as Ferguson also uses Dane Anders Lindegaard.
The Spaniards will limit any offer to £20m and that could include a Real youngster moving the opposite way.
