Real Madrid legend Roberto Carlos has declared Cristiano Ronaldo the best in the world.

The Brazilian says he's a big fan of Barcelona star Lionel Messi.

But he insists: "I'm a big fan of Messi but Cristiano Ronaldo has made more of an impression on me; he is in an incredible moment of form. He is doing everything well, he's a leader.

"Don't get me wrong, I am not just saying that because he is a Real Madrid player - that's got nothing to do with it. Messi is incredible and what he has done and achieved in football history is fantastic but if I had to choose which player was the best during the past 12 months, I'd go for Cristiano Ronaldo."
