Real Madrid legend Heirro happy taking GM post at ambitious Malaga

Real Madrid legend Fernando Hierro has been named new general manager of Malaga.

Former Bolton Wanderers defender Hierro moves to Malaga from his technical director's post with the Spanish FA.

He told the club's website: "I'm very happy to start a new challenge for the next four years and satisfied with the chance to tackle this project together with Malaga.

"There was a time when I would have liked to have had a quiet year, but there was no other choice for me but to accept the exciting challenge on my home ground offered to me by Malaga.

"This is a very ambitious project, wonderful and exciting and I'm fortunate to be a part of it. It's very exciting for Malaga, and I'll try to help and collaborate so that this project continues to grow."
