Real Madrid go top of table with win over Granada

Real Madrid have gone top of La Liga with a 2-0 win over Granada.

Second-half goals by Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema saw off Granada and fired Real Madrid to the top of the Primera Division for the first time since May 2012.

Newly crowned Ballon d'Or winner Ronaldo opened the scoring for the hosts after 57 minutes and then played a part in Benzema's goal, which wrapped up the points 19 minutes later.

Real coach Carlo Ancelotti said: "In the first half we had problems recovering the ball up front. In the second half we pressed more and recovered the ball easier to be able to attack quicker.

"The most important thing is the balance that we have at the moment. That is the key and I've said so many times. We are defending well and attacking very well right now. There is always room to improve, we could play faster sometimes. But the key is the team's balance."
