Real Madrid failed with €81M mega contract to trump Bayern Munich for Lewandowski

Real Madrid failed with a massive bid for new Bayern Munich signing Robert Lewandowski. It was confirmed last week that the Pole would be leaving Borussia Dortmund for Bayern at the end of the season.

Der Spiegel reports Real were in contact with BVB and Lewandowski about a deal worth a staggering €81 million.

Real president Florentino Pérez assigned British lawyer Colin Pomford the task of contracting the services of the Poland international. He offered the in-demand forward a six-year contract, with a salary of €9.5 million plus a €10-million signing-on fee, while the intermediaries would take €14 million.

The agreement hinged on Lewandowski signing a pre-contract, so muscling Bayern out of the picture.

But Bayern chief Uli Hoeness caught wind of the negotiations and quickly intervened to convince the Pole to stay in Germany and move to Munich instead.
