Real Madrid fail to beat Santos scoring record

Real Madrid's defeat to Real Betis saw them fail to beat Santos' scoring record.

Betis' stoppage time winning goal not only brought about a defeat for Real Madrid but it halted Los Blancos' run of 73 consecutive games scoring, with the last team to keep a clean sheet against them being Manchester City in the Champions League in April 2016, more than 500 days ago.

Los Merengues first beat the longest Spanish streak of 44 games held by Barcelona, followed by the European record of 61 set by Bayern Munich, before equalling Santos' all-time best on 73 games from 1963 with Borja Mayoral's finish against Real Sociedad.

In those 73 games, Los Blancos scored 200 goals with Cristiano Ronaldo contributing 49 of them.
