Real Madrid defender Pepe sees contract talks stall

Real Madrid defender Pepe's new contract talks have stalled.

Marca says Pepe and Real still have some differences to work out if the player's contract is to be extended beyond its summer 2017 end date, with the two parties disagreeing over the length of the potential new deal.

The 33-year-old defender wants a two-year contract, but the Real Madrid hierarchy are only prepared to offer a one-year extension, with the possibility of a second year should certain requirements be met.

Frustrated by the lack of progress, Pepe told reporters that the ball was in Los Blancos' court after the recent match against Sporting Gijon, but those within the capital city institution were left unimpressed by his outspokenness.
