Real Madrid defender Pepe has added to coach Jose Mourinho's problems ahead of their Champions League clash with Manchester United.

With skipper Iker Casillas definitely ruled out, Punto Pelota says Pepe has told close friends he is also struggling to make the first-leg in Madrid.

The Portugal defender underwent ankle surgery last month and there are fears his recovery is not on schedule.

Mourinho may have to go with Raphael Varane at the back for the first-leg to be staged next week.
