Real Madrid controlled the game, we created more than Man City - Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo believes Real Madrid were deserved winners of Wednesday night's UEFA Champions League semi-final second leg.

The Spanish giants edged Manchester City 1-0 at the Santiago Bernabeu to progress to the final 1-0 on aggregate after a tense two-legged tie, decided by a deflected Fernando own-goal in the 20th minute.

Ronaldo, who returned from injury for the second leg, felt that Zinedine Zidane's side were the better of the two over longer periods which resulted in the victory that has sent them through to the May 28 final where they will meet Atletico Madrid in Milan.

"It was a tough game but I think we played better than City," the former Manchester United ace told BT Sport.

"We created more chances in the 1st and 2nd half. We were more intense. We knew after the goal that City would press high but I think we controlled the game.

"1-0 was short result but we are happy we are in the final."

He added: "We created chances. (Luka) Modric, myself, but in this kind of game we have to kill the game. It was good because we got through.

"It will be a tough final. You never know what will happen. We get to play Atletico, I'm happy because the Champions League final is special."

Regarding his own fitness, having missed around two weeks of action with a thigh problem, the Portuguese superstar added: "It was a good 15 days and I didn't do much.

"I played today. People doubt me. People forget I recover fast. I'm happy, no problems but I was tired because I didn't compete for 15 days."
