Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane is holding onto Mateo Kovacic.

Marca says Kovacic is not for sale according to his current club Real Madrid.

AC Milan were believed to be considering taking the former Inter playmaker back to the Serie A, yet the situation has not changed from early August when it first became clear he would remain in the Spanish capital.

The Madrid-based club have made clear that the 22-year-old will spend the 2016/17 campaign in Los Blancos' first-team and is not contemplating any alternatives.

Kovacic isn't alone in attracting interest from abroad, with Nacho Fernandez also having previously been linked with Roma and Napoli, but he too isn't for sale.
