Real Madrid coach Zidane explains Bale benching for PSG win

Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane has explained starting their Champions League win over PSG with Gareth Bale on the bench.

The Welshman was on the bench with Zidane opting for a diamond featuring Isco in his place.

"If the BBC are fit, the idea is that they play," the coach said when appointed, and that had been the case since then other than when he has decided to rest them.

Over his two year reign, that had been the story, but in midweek it all changed.

Cristiano Ronaldo is recovering form, Karim Benzema is still struggling but Bale, despite having overcome injury concerns, was left out.

"I wanted to play a diamond and I felt that against PSG it was best to play like that," Zidane explained.
