Real Madrid's squad is strong enough to absorb the loss of Pepe, insists coach Manuel Pellegrini.
Pepe has been a key member of Madrid's defence since his 30million euro move from Porto two years ago but he us unlikely to play any further part this season after suffering a serious knee injury.
Pellegrini said: "It's a big loss because he is out for six months and there is a World Cup at the end of the season. The club is also hurt because it has lost a great player.
"But like I said when Cristiano Ronaldo was injured, this team is built to have replacements. Garay is the starter, but we also have Metzelder and Ramos who can play there as well.
"If we need someone else, we will analyse the situation carefully."
