Real Madrid coach Lopetegui: I've told Modric I want him to stay

Real Madrid coach Julen Lopetegui is confident of Luka Modric's commitment.

Inter Milan boss Luciano Spalletti declared on Saturday they were in talks to sign the Croatia captain.

But Lopetegui said, "The president answered, I do not have much more to add. Modric is an extraordinary player, we wait for him with open arms.

"I talked to him after his excellent World Cup and we entrusted him to return, on the 8th, to start working to see if he can be ready on August 15 for the first big game of the season.

"I told him that he is a player that I am passionate about, I love him. And he knows it. He will be happy playing football, as he already was, at Real Madrid.

"Luka is a Madrid player and will continue to be, I have no doubts. We have enjoyed him and we will continue enjoying him."
