Real Madrid coach Clement emerges as favourite for Derby job

Paul Clement is being heavily linked with the Derby County managerial role.

The Daily Mail reports that talks between current manager Steve McClaren and chief executive Sam Rush on Thursday night have placed the job of the former England boss in doubt.

It is believed that McClaren could soon be dismissed from the iPro Stadium post with Real Madrid assistant Clement his most likely replacement.

McClaren had the Rams on the verge of promotion before a late-season disaster saw them slip out of contention, eventually finishing eighth in the Championship.

43-year old Clement has worked alongside Carlo Ancelotti at Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and Real after spending time as academy coach at both Chelsea and Fulham.

With Ancelotti set to be sacked by the Spanish giants this summer, Clement is eager to find a management role of his own and the East Midlands could be the place for that to occur.
