Real Madrid chiefs are spending this weekend weighing up whether to bid for Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard.

With the prospect of England's World Cup campaign being over as early as Wednesday, Real want to get in for Gerrard as soon as they can to avoid an auction with Barcelona and Rafa Benitez's Inter Milan.

At 30, Real believe he is over priced at £25m and are considering switching attentions to Roma's Daniele de Rossi.

However, scouts still came back with impressive reports on Gerrard following his performance for England last week.
