Real Madrid chief Pedja confirms bid for Man Utd striker Tevez

Real Madrid sports chief Pedja Mijatovic admits they have made a formal bid for Manchester United striker Carlos Tevez.

He told the Daily Mail: "I first made an approach four months ago to express an interest in Carlos.

"We have spoken since with his representatives, but he's informed us that he wants to stay in England."

Mijatovic, a former Yugoslavia forward whose goal in 1998 took the European Cup back to Madrid after a 32-year absence, added: "Carlos says it is important to his family to stay in England so it seems he will either stay with Manchester United or find another club.

"It takes a special type of player to play for a club like Real Madrid, or Manchester United and clearly Carlos has those qualities."
