Real Madrid sports chief Pedja Mijatovic is convinced city rivals Atletico are destined to be competing at the top table in Europe in the years to come.

Despite victory at the Vicente Calderon yesterday, Mijatovic said: "I do not know if they are aiming to win the Liga, I guess so, because they're a big club, but course they will be in the Champions League.

"Atletico is a team with players of an enormous level and are sure to be among the greats of Europe.

"I have no doubts they are on the way up."
