Real Madrid chief Emilio Butragueno has hit out at Sevilla fans for barracking Sergio Ramos.
Ramos responded to the insults by scoring an 83rd minute Panenka penalty and appearing to stare down the Sevilla ultras, but Butragueno insisted that Ramos still loves the club he left in 2005.
"He loves Sevilla a lot and it hurts a lot to return home to insults," he said at Friday's Copa del Rey draw.
"I don't think it's right what happened yesterday.
"Nobody should be abused and especially not somebody who we consider a legend of world football, the captain of Spain, the captain of Real Madrid and an exemplary sportsman.
"He is our captain and we are with him."
More generally, the former Real Madrid and Spain striker hopes that such behaviour will soon be removed from the sport.
"We all know that it's not right for there to be insults in any football stadium," he told reporters. "Football is a wonderful sport and what it should do is unite.
"We want it to be enjoyable and for families to go to the stadium."
