Real Madrid captain Raul can be Harry's special signing for Tottenham

Tottenham are preparing a shock move for Real Madrid captain Raul. The News of the World says Spurs boss Harry Redknapp wants to strengthen his squad after qualifying for Europe's elite competition following Wednesday's crucial win at Manchester City.

Spurs have made contact with the striker's agent Gines Carvajal and are hoping Real will release their legendary captain on a free transfer this summer.

"Raul has always been interested in the Premier League," said a source close to the player.

"He has spoken with friends like Fernando Morientes and Michel Salgado, who know England, and they have encouraged him to make the move."

Raul, 32, who earns £5million-a-year, has scored just seven goals in 39 games this season but found the net 24 times the year before.

"If we could find a special player, and it might only be one player, who could make a real difference for us, then we'll see what we can do," said Redknapp.
