Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos has taken a swipe at Diego Maradona.

Ramos was responding to Maradona's claims that Atletico Madrid defender Diego Godin was "a far more complete player" than the Spain skipper.

"I do not want to argue but I have to say it. No, the craque is Godin. He defends, he passes, he gets you a goal, he makes you a champion," said Maradona. "His anticipation is tremendous. Godín is a craque."

Ramos replied: "In Argentina they know that Maradona is light years away from the best Argentine player in history, which for me is Leo Messi."
