Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane: I never wanted to be coach

Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane admits he's surprised himself with his coaching.

After hanging up his boots in 2006, the Frenchman took a break from the game for several years before taking over Real Madrid's Castilla side and assisting Carlo Ancelotti in 2014.

After two years in charge there, he was handed the top job at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu following the sacking of Rafa Benitez and last season led Real to a Champions League title in his debut campaign.

"When I was a player I always said that I would never become a coach," Zidane admitted in an interview with FIFA. "After my retirement I dedicated myself to other things.

"I soon realised though that I wanted to be involved on the pitch again and so I prepared to become a coach and now I'm really enjoying it."
